CITY ELECTED ADMINISTRATION
January 1, 2008 - December 31, 2011
The city is divided into five districts with one council member elected from each district and two council members elected "at large." Council members are part-time elected officials who may run for re-election as often as they wish. Each year, the Common Council elects a Council president who presides in absence of the mayor. The Mayor, Clerk-Treasurer, and 7-member City Council are elected for 4-year terms. The Council meets the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 302 E. Market Street. The Common Council holds the city's legislative authority and makes the laws through ordinances, orders, resolutions and motions. The Common Council has final authority over the city's property, finances and appropriation of monies. The mayor presides at council meetings and votes only in cases of a tie.
