Trash/Yard Waste/Appliances

NOTE:  We need your help to keep the people safe who collect your trash and yard waste.  These people face many hazards associated with disposing of your waste materials.  Improperly disposed of glass can shatter, hazardous waste can explode, and heavy materials can cause back injuries.  We request your help in keeping our employees safe by adopting safe waste disposal practices.  We look forward to serving you and all those in our community.

Pick-Up Rules and Regulations
The City of Warsaw Street Department appreciates your involvement in the garbage, yard waste recycling, and appliance pick-up programs. In order for the City to properly dispose of your garbage, yard waste and appliances, a few simple requirements must be followed.

1.  Trash, yard waste and recycling should be set out by 7:00 AM.

2.  Trash must be bagged and placed in no larger than a 32-gallon trash container with a handle and tight-fitting lid.  Total weight can not exceed 40 pounds.

3.  Yard waste must be bagged or boxed, not to exceed 40 pounds in weight.

4.  Tree limbs should be no longer than four feet (4') in length and six inches (6") in diameter.

5.  No building materials, auto parts, tires or whole carpets will be accepted by City trash pickup.

6.  The City is not set up to properly dispose of refuse "over and beyond normal household trash."  Examples of items that can not be accepted and will need to be disposed of by the property owner include:  contractor generated material, construction/remodeling/demolition debris, clean-outs and/or excess trash from a resident moving in or out.

7.  Televisions, microwaves and computer monitors are now considered hazardous waste due to their mercury content, and are no longer accepted at the landfill.  Please take these items to KC Depot (Kosciusko County Solid Waste District).  Call 372-3087 for more information.  Recycling Information

Garbage and Trash
Garbage and trash must be put in proper containers before the City Sanitation Department will pick it up. A "container" shall mean a metal or plastic can of not more than thirty-two (32) gallon capacity having a tight-fitting cover and so equipped with handles. Garbage must be in plastic bags; not loose in the container. Weight Limit: 40 lbs. per container.  (Ordinance No. 98-3-5)

Yard Waste / Leaf Pickup
Yard waste--which includes grass, brush or leaves--must be separated from all household garbage or non-organic refuse. Loose grass and leaves must be bagged or boxed, and placed at your trash pickup site. Weight Limit: 40 lbs. per container.

Leaves must be free from grass, sticks, brush and trash in order for the leaf truck to pick them up.
Please place leaves on the curb line -- not in the street.  Leaves in the alley will be picked up at the end of the leaf season (typically late November or early December).

Appliances
Appliances that contain Freon will be picked up by the Street Department. However, the Freon must first be removed by a Certified Service Technician and a state approved certification tag (obtained by a Certified Technician) must be attached to the unit, stating Freon has been removed. In addition, please remove any doors or compressors, and place beside the appliance.

Televisions and microwaves are now considered hazardous waste due to their mercury content, and are no longer accepted at the landfill.
