The Warsaw Fire Department is dedicated to serving and protecting the lives and property of the individuals that live, work, play and travel in our great community.
The WFD protects not only the citizens of Warsaw, but also Wayne Township which surrounds the city. The WFD is classified as a combination department.
In 1912, the department hired its first paid firefighter. Since that time, it has evolved to our present staff of 31 paid members and 17 volunteer members. The department consists of the Fire Chief, Training Officer, Fire Marshal, Administrative Assistant, and 27 Firefighters. The paid staff works a 24-hour on-duty/48 hour off-duty schedule. We have three shifts with nine firefighters per shift, including one Assistant Chief, one Captain, and one Lieutenant. The volunteer staff have their own officers, consisting of one Captain and one Lieutenant.
| The department was fortunate to receive an ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) certified canine in 2003. Baily is handled by our Fire Marshal, Michael Wilson. Bailey's main job is to detect if accelerants were used to start a fire, but he is also a hit with the kids during station tours. |

In 2003, WFD also received a FEMA Grant (Federal Emergency Management Association), which enabled the department to purchase a flashover chamber and burn building. These units are used for on-going training not only for our firefighters but for firefighters throughout the county.

We also have a rehabilitation trailer for the firefighters during the unpredictable Indiana weather. The department has two 2001 Chevrolet Tahoes, one for the Chief's command and the other for Fire Marshal Wilson and Bailey, in addition to a 2004 pickup truck for the Training Officer. All three units respond off-duty to working structure fires.
